A Short Comment on Obama or "The Cow and the Ice Cream"~~~~

Hello Sweet Things,

I do love flash drives, small, discreet, very portable, lots of memory, I wrote this up Tuesday night, came to work early again this morning, things are quiet right now so no problem to quickly down load this. Then a meeting at 9 a.m, I just “love” Wednesday morning meetings, coffee, bagels, fruit, pastries; our boss “foots” the bill. Big believer in staff moral, which is pretty good around here.

Well it was a good thing that I got an early morning start to work on Monday, with Lillian dropping me off at the Ferry and the Ferry being crowded it was a good choice. After getting to work I found that much of my colleagues were able to keep things going for me, but I did have a bit of ‘catch up’ to do.

Which wasn’t too bad really, it was good to see everyone, and they treated me to lunch at our favorite place; Fortunately when I asked for the days that I wanted for vacation it was not a problem, especially since I would be in the office before and over New Years, and with WiFi and everything I can keep in touch with the office.

Unfortunately I had to take BART and Bus back home, I called Lillian to explain. Bless her she ordered ‘delivery’ from our favorite Chinese place, so she had the fun of me explaining to her all the woes of commuting with the Bay Bridge being closed. Hmmm it felt like New York during Rush Hour.

I have to admit, taking public transportation is really a good thing in the City, unless you have to ride one of the City’s Muni Busses. Especially into one of the more crowded ethic parts of the city, but I’ve such a short walk to the BART station from work, it’s not so bad. Thank Goodness for tennis shoes, so much better on the feet when you have to walk, although I’ve gotten fond of Sketchers, no Crocs for me, they are so ugly.

It was a good thing that Lillian ordered dinner, I was so tired, but I know it will get better once I’m into the swing of it again.

We got word that the bridge is finally open but it will close again in a few months for any additional repair. Well I’ll be prepared with alternatives. Just let us know in advance is all I can say.

But I still don’t trust the repairs that have been made, not that it’s CAL Trans fault, its an old bridge and until they can be sure it will be safe for a longer period of time then I’m going to have to take the San Mateo Bridge to get to the City on Saturday---Another Gun Show at the Cow Palace---Yippee!! I just know I’m not going to get lucky as I did the last time, but its wise to never say never.

Of course it will take a long time to get over the bridge even for a Saturday, however with the Bay Bridge being open and functioning for a few days it might make it easier, from what I’m hearing they are going to make sure it is fixed and fixed right---Well I hope so!! The persons in those three cars were lucky to not be injured, the next time it might be worse.

Patience that is what one needs right now, patience.

I’ve been keeping quiet on President Obama for many reasons, the first being that I wanted to see how his administration is going to start out.

But recently Rush Limbaugh in an interview said that Obama (and I’m paraphrasing) is the most dangerous person to the freedom and liberty of the American people.

Although the White House spokesperson said that Limbaugh is just an entertainer, from the rumblings that I have been hearing among my colleagues, Limbaugh may not be off the mark.

It’s a question of “The Cow and the Ice Cream”.

A teacher wanted to show to her 3rd graders how politics and elections work, so she had her class select two candidates Joe and Olivia, both were excellent students, and both had their parents support. When it came time for them to give their speeches as to why each should be elected Joe gave an excellent speech about how he would improve the class room and how he would go about doing it.

Olivia stood up and said “If I’m elected I will give everyone ice cream” and sat down, when asked how would the ice cream be given, where would the money for the ice cream come from, and where was the source for the ice cream, or where was the “Cash Cow” to handle all of this, the reply was “I don’t know”.

Olivia was elected, because all that her class mates could see and hear was “Ice Cream”

And that is how a number of my colleagues view the Obama Presidency.

It is a frightening thought.

And now I must get back to work. Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho.

On Politics and Meg Whitman~~~my thoughts~~

Sweet Fram, my weblog friend, has put to me a question.

What are my thoughts on Meg Whitman who is running for the Governor's seat for California?

A short answer---"You Go Girl!"

The long (very long) answer, I am comfortable with her position on a number of hot button issues----as a woman she is for "choice" I'm not going to use the word "abortion" but "choice".

Now this is interesting since she is also a Republican--and most Republicans are anti-choice, but she is looking at this as a woman's right---which is what it should be, it's a woman's body, it is a woman's choice. We do not know all the ramifications that is confronting a woman when faced with this difficult decision, so this should be between the woman, her body, her own feelings and religious beliefs, her life situation and her doctor.

No one, not a person, a political, religious, economic or medical entity should demand that she be forced into doing something that she may feel is not good for her. This Is HER Choice, no one elses'.

But as a Parent she did believe that underage girls need to have their parents notified if they are considering terminating a pregnancy---I had a chance to look into this view of hers and from what I understand, if the underage girl can show that she may be at risk from parental abuse because of this pregnancy then that is a mitigating circumstance. The reason why she did not vote for that law is that it was poorly written---a view that I can appreciate.

There is a Native American Prayer or saying "Great Spirit, Grant that I may not criticize my neighbor until I have walked in his moccasins"

And that is how it should be.

She believes that "Marriage" is a religious word and should be a union between a man and a woman, but she also believes in same sex civil unions and that gays and lesbians should have the same rights to adopt children, she also believes that those unions that were conducted before Prop 8 (which she did vote for) should be recognized.

Now I like that----if you take the word "Marriage" out of this whole debate, and make it just a word to use within the religious context, it defeats the entire issue. There is nothing to argue about. And she recognizes that not everyone has the same life style.

She is against Props 1A through 1 E, and her arguments are very sound, it only puts the financial burden upon the people of California, it does not fix the problems that caused it.

She is for 1F which is no politician gets a raise when the state is in a deficit situation, and I think (and I hope this is right) no politician gets paid if the budget is not passed in a timely manner.

She is for bringing business back to California, improve the economy, take the burden off of the Tax Payer.

And that is what many, many California Tax payers are screaming about! But no one at the State Capital is listening.

At every company that she has been at she has improved it, she was even up for Michael Eisner's job at Disney, and she was in the lead, but after one week in the choosing process she backed out and recommended to Disney another person----she RECOMMENDED another rival who would be good for the job.

I would say that is far-seeing, and the mark of an excellent manager.

Which is something that the State of California needs.

She believes in Women in Business, is one of 5 of the most influential women in the Business World.

She is not going to be loved at the State Capital if she gets the job, because she is going to cut out waste, fat, stupidity and run the state as if it were a business which it should be and will work to get California be the Golden State it is meant to be.

And it's going to hurt, like a face lift, and a lot of people are going to be looking for work elsewhere, but no pain, no gain. People and various state entities are going to have to prove themselves, no leaning on a shovel marking time. And that is how it should be.

Now about gun rights---I have not be able to get a handle about that, but she was helping to run the John McCain campaign, so I think that may say something about gun rights (at least I hope so).

I, as a woman, as a woman in business, as a woman tax payer, as a woman who tries to be fair (at least I hope I am fair) and as a gun owner, pro-2nd amendment, I know I will vote for her.

She may have some negative positions, but I feel that her positive positions outweigh any negatives----she is certainly a lot better than what has been running this state into the ground and has tarnished it's golden look.

If anyone disagrees with me, well that is fine, you are entitled to disagree, as I said this is just my thoughts on Meg Whitman, a mother and a business woman and I don't think at this point in time that I will change my opinion on her for Governor.

And I am going to be watching her campaign as the 2010 elections get closer, she is going to have a long hard fight, but I think that since is is pro-choice, pro-same sex civil unions, pro-economy, pro-education, anti- excess tax she maybe the best medicine this state needs.

Now Fram, I know that maybe my answer might be "windy" ;-) and simplistic, but right now I've got a hardwood floor man getting the scratches and gouges out of my living room floor, so it's kinda hard thinking straight, with grinding, banging, skrittching, and other "gosh-awful" sounds.

The skrittching is the hard part---oh ouch!

After this I need a Spa Treatment---Hmmm I think I might spend the weekend at the Clarmont Hotel and Resort, just over the bridge and up the hill from here, after I go to the range with "Baby". Hmmmmm what a de-Lite-ful Thought----the chocolate hand treatment is so decadent.

The Characters of San Francisco~~~~

Well you sweet luscious, yummy things, the situation here in California “heated up”. They did a “lock down” on the house and the senate at the State Capital to finalize a state budget.

Hmmmm and they did, Republican Maldonado, waited until he knew that the vote came down to him and he made his demands. Oooohhhh I just loooove his strategy, the democrats had to give in or they would be stuck there, without showers, until the budget passed, and what Maldonado demanded made very good sense. (Rowl)

A spending cap, no raises for law makers in budget deficient years, no per diems for law makers if a budget does not pass, elimination of the 12 cent per gallon tax on gasoline, the Comptroller’s office could forget all new furniture, put to the voters on the ballot for 2010 if they want open primaries, of course sweet things that is something that most democrats hate, but he got it. Although he thinks it could cost him his political career, but I think that he just might improve it, because he thought the way most reasonable people, like Moi, think. (Merowl)

After all why should those idiot, knuckle draggers get paid, when the rank and file are being laid off. Even I know that the threat to lay off the rank and file would do NOTHING!! (Rowl) But oh threaten their own pet projects coming to a stand still and THEN watch them hustle (Growl)

It’s not perfect, but it’s what everyone is going to have to face for the next 18 months, the question is will what California receive, in its portion of the stimulus package be enough? Of course it won’t, even I know that you have to do more to bring businesses here to California and I’m talking big corporations, not just small businesses.

Creating almost 500,000 jobs here in California is not enough, when we are closer to being several million unemployed. (Flicking a speck of dust off my sleeve)

But enough of that sweet things.

I’ve been scanning the news and there is so much to consider and rant about I don’t know what to chose from, I think I would prefer local news, after all we all know what is happening and not happening that should happen nation wide and internationally.

Work has been a “bit insane”, my friend Yoshi and I, as well as several others feel that when the rain stopped and we had a few ‘blessed days’ of sunshine, it also brought out the ‘nut cases’ or as I prefer to call them “51/50’s”.

There were just too many incidences to even begin to tell you, like one man accusing John of impersonating a police officer, and poor John was dressed in a business suit, or the man who said Yoshi was staring at him when she was really looking at me as we grabbed a cup of coffee this morning; of course this man was never in Yoshi’s line of sight as he was sitting behind her, then this fellow said “everyone-is-staring-at! ME!’ so I said to him with an evil look on my face “You better watch out, ‘they’re coming to get you Barbara’”

(Merowl) I soooo loved the original “Night of the Living Dead” (the one in black and white) we laughed when he quickly got up and ran away. Ahhh but dear sweet Yoshi said “It can’t get worse.” It did.

This afternoon (Friday) we were finishing up things at work when there was a commotion just outside our conference area, we stopped what we were doing and went out into the main area and was surprised to see this naked man (not the same one from this morning) wearing only tennis shoes (they may have been Michael Jordan’s’) and a idiotic smile on his face, running through and around the office area, generally was frightening the younger women, then he made the mistake of bouncing up to me.

Ahhh sweet things I can be soooo evil; he stopped in front of me, I suspect thinking that I would blush or scream, but instead I slowly looked him up and down, pointed to his shriveled magic wanger and said “Is that all you’ve got? That IS pitiful.” And laughed.

It was enough to stop him so that Security captured and handcuffed him; I never saw such a deflated look on a persons face. After Security marched him away, to be arrested by the Police, Dan came up to me and said “Remind me to never get on your bad side.” (Purrr)

One staffer asked if they had started the “Bay to Breakers” run, I could only shake my head thinking that ‘Spring Fever’ has started early in S.F., Yoshi told me that she was thankful that she seldom goes to see the Bay to Breakers Run, at first she enjoyed it for the clever costumes, and interesting floats, but after seeing 3 naked, overly fat men running who were in serious need of a Richard Simmons intervention, that was enough to give her nightmares for weeks and swear off French fries. Poor Yoshi. (mew)

BART was running slow, there were some problems on one of the track lines, I overhead that there had been a shooting or a stabbing at one of the stations, this evening I found out it was both at two different stations.

When I finally got home, the sky was turning its wonderful Maxfield Parrish Blue with pink and gold at the edge of the skyline, but it was still too bright to see any stars, I heard that more rain was on the way, but at least we had a chance to dry out a little. (purrrr)

I just set my things down when I heard a noise just outside my door, opening it I discovered my elderly neighbor Lillian had dropped one of her shopping bags, fortunately it only contained can goods, so I helped her get her things into her home and told her to sit down while I put things away for her.

Poor sweet thing, she’s going to be 92 this Thanksgiving, and she does have an interesting story to tell, having lived a very interesting and unconventional life, she lives alone, is still active and can still play 9 rounds of golf.

She invited me to dinner and we had a lot of laughs as she told me about the things she did in her life and I told her about what happened today. Ooohhhh sweet things I just love her zest for life, her overwhelming desire to learn new things, her mind just as sharp as ever.

The one thing that does trouble her is that her eyesight is slowly deteriorating, she sees well enough during the day to drive, but once it gets dark it’s impossible for her to drive, I said that if there was some place she had to go to in the evening I’d be happy to take her. I felt that she shouldn’t feel trapped in her own home. Not that she is without family, she does have children, grandchildren even great grandchildren but they all live out of town.

I really like Lillian, I said that if she wanted me to, I could check on her, if she liked, and if there was any emergency I could contact her family. I could see that my suggestion brought a look of relief on her face, she admitted to me that it was one thing that worried her, she had out-lived most of her friends, but to know there was someone close by made her feel much better, so we made arrangements. I also knew that once baby sis moved in with me that we would be able to keep an eye on Lillian even better. I knew baby sis would like her as much I do.

So now I finish my blog, and look out my window to the lights of the City by the Bay, and think upon all the characters that make up the City; about Mr. “they’re staring at me” and “the naked runner”, Millie the 85 year old woman who takes Polaroid pictures of people, the twins so identical to wearing the same outfits, the Bush man, Tommy the escape artist who escapes out of chains at the cable car turn table at fisherman’s wharf, the old man who rides the cable car playing “Camp town Ladies” on his harmonica while his dog ‘sings’, the elderly lady whose dog carries her purse (her dog is a Rotwiler ), Judy the Hooker who wears hot pink Daisy Dukes’ even though she’s 70 years old, and so many more, each one who does something to be distinctive in a gray city, to break out of the drabness of the world.

Each has their own niche, painted upon the psychic canvas of the City, some to be remembered for a long, long time, some who will become distant faded memories, but all not quite forgotten as long as there is at least one person to remember them.

And now my sweet, yummy things, to bed, to sleep, perchance to dream, sweet dreams to all of you.
